Tribute & Message From The Family

August 25, 1930 – May 13, 2017

Virginia Lee Baird of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully at 4:52 a.m. on May 13, 2017.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 15, at Southern Cremations and Funerals at Cheatham Hill, 1861 Dallas Highway, SW, Marietta, GA 30064, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 16, at 11 a.m.

Virginia was born in Topeka, Kansas, to James and Esther Henthorn. She graduated from Topeka High School, class of 1948. She later became a Registered Nurse and then married Richard Baird on October 11, 1951. They were married for nearly 56 years.

She loved to write and joined a writers' guild in Nebraska when she lived there. She won a national nurses' association writer's contest which awarded her a weekend in Vermont at the Breadloaf Writer's Conference. She continued to write until last year.

To be with Virginia was to have a daily adventure. She was happiest when surrounded by family, but even when she was in and out of the hospital and near her end, she always maintained a sense of humor. She was independent to a fault and cared deeply for everyone she knew. She was a very generous person and always believed the best about everyone, even the most challenging people.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, James and Esther Henthorn, and her husband, Richard Baird.

Survivors include her three children, Lianne Whang, Dennis Baird, and Terrance Baird. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and her brother, Larry Henthorn.

Her memory will be deeply treasured and she will be missed by all whose hearts she touched.
