Tribute & Message From The Family

Loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend

William Earl Hayes of Franklinton, NC was born May 27, 1937 in Granville County to the late Leon Rufus Hayes and Bessie R. Hayes. William was united in Holy Matrimony with Barbara Ann Tyler on September 25, 1965. To this union, one child was born, Alicia Denise Hayes McKenzie. And three successor grandchildren- Khalil S. Hayes, Zekiah R. McKenzie and Kaleb K. McKenzie. He also leaves to cherish his memory: 4 brothers- Thomas Edward, John Merlin, Clarence Rufus & Phillip Wesley; 2 sisters- Betty H. Cozart & Gladys H. Vann; Son-in-law- George McKenzie, Jr; A number of nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Williams life radiated sunshine wherever he went. He had many friends and was admired for his thoughtfulness and desire to help others as he passed along. He joined the Army in 1966 and served his country with Honorable Discharge as a Sharpshooter. Although he was born in North Carolina, he lived half his life until 1984 in Baltimore, MD and the other half he lived in Norcross, GA until 2017. He worked a number of years for Western Electric/AT&T and retired to go on to owning Hayes Vending for 6 years after. He passed on the vending business to his daughter and decided to get in the night club business owning the Tanqueray Lounge for 17 years. He was very loving and protective of his family. Nothing soft spoken about him, with his deep voice, but was well loved and respected by all.

He has been recognized by the Georgia Secretary of State for being an Outstanding Georgia Citizen in 2008. A true soldier he was, all the way to the day of his death. Me, Me, Me - Lord Have Mercy - Oh Jesus Christ were his words of choice in his last months.

These words I ask you to treasure in your heart as your ever lasting memory of William Earl Hayes - Because he had so much to complain about, yet he called on The Lord every day for strength. He put up a great fight and God held him through. He left this place fulfilled and with a smile on his face... HAPPY Hayes* Bill* William* Pops* BillyD* Will* Daddy Hayes* Black Magic* Angel Never Forgotten

Though death removed from our midst our husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, his spirit and willingness to help others will abide with us always. RIP Daddy

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to their many family and friends for your continued prayers during his illness. We also and share appreciation for your acts of kindness through phone calls, cards, flowers and food.

God saw the road getting hard to climb. He gently closed his eyes and whispered "Peace Be Thine". There's an open gate at the end of the road. Through which each one must go alone, And there is a light we cannot see. Our Father claims His Own; Beyond the gate our loved one finds happiness and rest at last.

His will be done, but in our hearts we love him still.

No matter when I came into the club you always had a hug for me and a smile. I went to Afghanistan and came home and that smile and hug were waiting for me. Thank you for always brightening my life. Heaven has a dapper angel!
