Dear friends whom he considered family

Roland enjoyed playing golf, but his greatest love and accomplishments were his family and friends, whom he cherished seeing and spending time together.
He will be remembered as a quiet man, with a great wit and keen sense of humor, who will be dearly missed.

At his request, he preferred to be remembered at a Celebration of Life, which will be held at his residence in Acworth, Ga., August 26, 2017, from 1:00 pm to 5:00pm. All are invited to join in our celebration.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Life Raft Group, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for GIST.

Our hearts are broken. Roland and Nancy own the cabin next to ours in Blue Ridge. Their family adopted Bill and I into their family many years ago. Friday evenings were our standing dinner out with them whenever they were in the mountains. Friday nights haven't been the same since we moved back to the city and haven't been able to resume our dinners. We would take turns driving on those Fridays. I think Bill and I drove too slowly for Roland's taste. Let's just say when Roland drove there were thirty white knuckles in that car; Bill Davis', Nancy Heerts' (yes, even Nancy) and myself. We will miss Roland and consider our time spent with him and Nancy and all their wonderful family. We love you all~!

I will miss my friend and cousin. He is with the Lord now and no more suffering. I will continue to pray for the Heerts family as they move on to their next chapter of life. Love to you all. -- Marshall Duke
