Alvin W. Ashcraft, Sr. passed away on January 5, 2018 in Marietta, GA. Alvin was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on July 29, 1924 to the late Iva and Val Ashcraft. He moved to Port Wentworth, GA where he lived for many years before moving to Marietta. Alvin was most recently a resident of Camellia Place Assisted Living in Woodstock, GA where he was loved and tenderly cared for until his passing. Prior to retirement, Alvin worked as a crane operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 926 and many years with Superior Rigging and Erecting. One of the highlights while working with Superior was his annual setting of the Christmas tree on top of Rich's Department Store which later became Macy's. Alvin had many stories he like to share about his experiences with jobs he worked, plus his experience during World War II serving with the 1053rd Engineer Port Construction & Repair unit in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Philippines, where he operated a crane in connection with the construction of bridges and the rebuilding of ports.

Alvin is survived by his two children, Al Ashcraft of Canton, GA and Gwen Morris of Springfield, VA. Alvin is also survived by four grandchildren, Jason Ashcraft of Canton, GA, Brittany Compton of Marietta, GA, Tiffany Morris of Arlington, VA, and Kristen Halligan of Arlington, VA; four great grandchildren, Alex Ashcraft, Kaleb Ashcraft-Martin, Austin Hackney, and Riley Halligan. Alvin is also survived by one brother Royce Ashcraft of Effingham County, GA. Alvin will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Alvin was predeceased by wife Hazel Ashcraft, granddaughter Alena Hackney, as well as brother Frank Ashcraft.

Services will be held at Southern Cremations and Funerals at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta GA with the family receiving visitors from 6p-8p Wednesday, January 10, 2018, and a Celebration of Alvin's life at 10am Thursday, January 11, 2018.
