Obituary

Harry Joseph Grochowski, Jr., 71, beloved son, husband, father, brother, and Gramps, passed away Sunday morning May 28, 2017. He was surrounded by loved ones in his home in Powder Springs, GA.
Harry was born in Chicago, Illinois July 30, 1945 to Rita Rose Nowaczyk and Harry Joseph Grochowski Sr. He graduated from Bogan High school in 1963 and enlisted in the Air Force where he studied Electrical Engineering.
During his enlistment, he met the love of his life Darlene Mildred Schoenherr. After Darlene stole one of his beers at a party, they became engaged 6 weeks later. He took his first job at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, IA and they married in Omaha, Nebraska where they had their first child Christine. Harry took a position with AT&T as a Communications Craftsman and moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois where they had their middle daughter Heather. While working his way up to area manager, Harry and Darlene jumped at the chance to transfer to sunny Florida where they had their youngest daughter Shawne. After another transfer to Atlanta in 1983, he retired in 1997. He then took a consulting role with Lucent Technologies where he traveled the world working year-long assignments in places such as Romania, Amsterdam, Philippines, Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, and London.
Harry's children meant the world to him and he saved every penny he made to give them experiences they could share together as a family. He jumped at the chance to make wonderful and lasting memories while camping at places like Disney World, Dollywood, and Busch Gardens. This only intensified when he became our beloved "Gramps" making summers a priority on the lake via houseboat, ski boat, and camper. He was the family patriarch and created family traditions that will live on with us for years to come.
To know Harry was an honor. He was the happiest when surrounded by family, but even when he was in and out of the hospital, he always maintained his sense of humor and concern for others above his own needs. He cared deeply for everyone he knew, touching their lives and instantly making genuine friendships.
He is survived by his wife Darlene Grochowski of 50 years, sister Diane Halagera, and brother Michael Grochowski. He leaves behind his three daughters Christine Galpin, Heather Cramer, and Shawne Townsley as well as four grandchildren, Riley, Elizabeth, Maya, and Connor.
